Summary of Position: To hire adjunct faculty to teach one course or a variety of courses, in one or more of the following degree programs: Building Construction Technology AAS, Civil Engineering Technology AAS, and Construction Management BS. In addition to the more common topics associated with the degree programs, experience in construction, surveying, construction finance, construction law, and virtual design and construction will be considered. Assignments may be lectures or labs; face-to-face, blended or online; in Big Rapids. A focus on student success, office hours, and use of current technology are expected.

This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
This posting is being used for face to face and/or online instruction. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 2024 at the earliest, and January 2025 at the latest.
 
Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing  
Required Education: 1. Master’s degree or higher, in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or master’s degree or higher, in a field related to course content plus five (5) years full-time US commercial or industry construction experience (this is required to teach 300 and 400 level courses) OR
2. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field and an MBA plus eight years (8) full-time US commercial or industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility (this is required to teach 300 and 400 level courses) OR
3. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field and ten (10) years full-time US commercial or industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility (this is required to teach 100 and 200 level construction courses).

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Preference will be given to candidates with construction industry experience in BIM, VDC, MEP and/or civil.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Meet established course outcomes.
Plan, deliver, and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses.
Conduct construction management, building construction technology, and civil engineering technology classes, labs, or other assignments as directed and in a professional manner.
Position may entail full-time or part-time teaching loads and related activities, based upon program need.
Close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via university-provided programs (where appropriate).
Approved adjuncts who have not received appointment will be asked to provide a minimum of one lecture or lab delivery per academic year as a demonstration of their interest and an opportunity for adjunct faculty development and preparation.
Maintain a minimum of one hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture at a time convenient to the students.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
